Three
Kangs Earn All-League Honors
Congratulations are in order to senior outfielder David
Rosser, senior first baseman Chris Hashimoto and junior shortstop Alex Potts
for their selection to the 2008 All-KingCo teams. Rosser and Hashimoto earned first-team honors
at their respective positions, while Potts was selected to the second-team
behind Redmond’s senior shortstop Marcus Flynn.
Rosser, who moved from behind the plate to center field
this season, earned first team based on a season where he finished fifth in
KingCo 4A with a .459 batting average.
He also scored 23 runs (T-2nd) and stole nine bases (T-4th)
without getting caught. His play in the
second half of the season was a big factor in Lake Washington’s late
surge. In the nine games following the
halfway point of the season, Rosser hit an astounding .688 (22-for-32) with 17
runs scored and 8 RBI. He went out in
style, doubling three times and driving in three runs in LW’s
season-ending loss to Battleground.
Hashimoto, a first-year Varsity starter, also switched
positions in 2008, making the move from the outfield over to first base. The transition was smooth, as Chris displayed
good hands and instincts at first. He
also swung a hot stick, finishing the year at .288, while leading all KingCo 4A
first basemen with 16 runs scored and 15 RBI.
Hashimoto ended the regular season with two home runs and had a few
taken away by the 425-foot alley at the Kangs home park of Lee Johnson
Field. He too finished strong, hitting
.455 in the second half of the season and topped things off with a monsterous 2-run blast in the Kangs’ playoff win over Inglemoor.
Potts, a first year Varsity starter, took the league by
storm in ’08, ranking near the top of the league in numerous offensive
categories. He finished the year 11th
in batting average (.417), 9th in RBI (18) and tied for 2nd
in runs scored (23). His .595 on-base
percentage was the ninth-best mark in the league and his 19 walks placed him
tied for second. All of those numbers
ranked either 1st or 2nd among KingCo 4A shortstops. Potts often saved his best for the game’s big
moments, with two game-winning hits in the Kangs last at-bat including a
walk-off two-run single in LW’s 11-10 comeback win
over Woodinville in the playoffs.
In addition to the three Kangs mentioned above, six others
received recognition on the honorable mention team. Seniors Ryan Neumann (catcher) and Joey Semler (outfield) were honored, along with juniors Eric Folkers (third base), Christian Kaiser (pitcher/DH), Tyler Staudacher (pitcher) and Chris Viltz
(outfield). Congratulations to all on a
great 2008 season!
