Kangs Extend Season with 7-3 Win

Junior Chris Moore was
2-for-3 with 2 RBI to lead the Kangs 12-hit attack.
Wesley Russell allowed just two runs over five innings and
Theo Alexander homered and drove in two as the Kangs moved into the loser’s
bracket finals of the KingCo
tournament with a 7-3 win over
Issaquah. LW had lost 12-2 to Issaquah
earlier in the season, but proved to be better on this night, pounding out 12
hits and playing flawless defense.
The scoring started in the second when junior designated
hitter Chris Moore had a clutch 2-out 2-run single to give the Kangs a 2-0
lead. Russell escaped a bases loaded jam
in the bottom half of the second and Alex Donnelly’s 2-out RBI single in the
third pushed the lead to 3-0.
Back-to-back doubles by Spencer Rogers and Devin O’Donnell got the first
Eagles run on the board, but Russell stranded O’Donnell at second base to end
the threat.
In the fourth, the Kangs broke things open. Moore doubled with one out and Alexander
followed with a opposite field blast to left-center field, clearing the fence
and putting LW up 5-1. Kory Kohlwes then
walked, stole second and scored on Bob Cruikshank’s RBI single, extending the
lead to 5. Issaquah scored one in the
bottom of the frame and threatened for more, but Russell struck out designated
hitter Shane Yarnell to end the threat.
Russell was lifted after five-plus innings and handed the ball to
Spencer Jackson, who got the final six outs of the game.
All nine batters in the Kangs line-up reached base, with eight
picking up at least one hit. Cruikshank,
Donnelly, Moore and Colin Tremblay had two hits a piece, while Alexander and
Moore each drove in two runs. Lake
Washington will practice Wednesday before taking on Bothell in the 3rd
place game on Thursday. The winner of
that game will travel to Vancouver on Saturday to take on the Greater St.
Helen’s League champion for the right to go to State. Game time Thursday is 4:00 pm at Woodinville
