Playoff Bound Kangs Drop Finale, 5-0

Seven seniors lead the
Kangs into the playoffs, which start on Saturday.
Six Inglemoor pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the
Kangs dropped their Senior Night game, 5-0 to the Vikings. The game had a pre-season feel to it, as both
teams combined to use 11 pitchers for no more than 2 innings each in preparation
for Saturday’s KingCo
4A playoffs.
Starters Wesley Russell and Spencer Trautman each threw two
shutout innings to start the game. The
Vikings broke through in the third, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits, with the runs
coming on a Mitchell Gonsolus sacrifice fly, an Ethan Yeo 2-run single and a
wild pitch. Scott Meyers’ solo home run
in the fifth capped the scoring, as the Kangs could not get on the board
despite getting at least one runner on base in every inning but the seventh.
Junior
shortstop Bob Cruikshank was 2-for-3 for the Kangs to end the regular season
with five consecutive multi-hit games.
Seniors Phil Gray and John Shimabukuro picked up the other two Lake
Washington hits. Senior Jamie Wallace
and junior Nori Shimizu joined Russell with scoreless outings on the mound. LW will head into the KingCo tournament as
the Crown Division’s #4 seed, and will take on Crest Division champion Redmond
in the first round. The game will be
played on Saturday at 7:00 pm at Woodinville HS.
