Skid Hits Four With 8-3 Loss to ‘Stangs

Senior Trevor Dunlap drove
in two of LW’s three runs on the night.
Lake Washington took a 2-1 lead into the fifth but were
undone by a 5-run frame, falling to Redmond 8-3. The loss was the fourth straight for Lake
Washington, who fell a game behind Ballard and Bothell for the final playoff
spots in KingCo 4A’s crown division.
Redmond took the lead in the first inning, when Josh Bircher
from third base on a wild pitch. The
score remained 1-0 into the fourth, when LW took the lead on an RBI single by
Bob Cruikshank and a run scoring ground out by Trevor Dunlap. Cruikshank, who was making his first start of
the year on the mound, was impressive through four innings, allowing just a hit
and two walks. The Mustangs however
chased him in the fifth, with the big blow coming off the bat of junior pitcher
Dylan Davis. With the game tied at 2 and
the bases loaded, Davis hit a first pitch breaking ball inside the third base
bag, clearing the bases and giving Redmond the lead for good.
Davis was also the story on the mound, as he struck out 12
Kangs in 5 2/3 innings of work. LW had
their chances, as Davis allowed 3 hits and 5 walks. However, he pitched out of jams in the third
and fifth innings before handing the ball to Ryan Beliel, who pitched the final
inning and a third for the save.
Lake Washington’s backs are against the wall heading into the
second round of divisional play.
Thursday, they will host Ballard at 7:00 pm at Lee Johnson Field in a critical
game for both teams. Come out and
support the boys as they attempt to finish the season strong.
