Long Ball Key in Kangs’ 7-2 Loss to Cougars

Senior Colin Tremblay had
two hits and an RBI in a losing effort.
Home runs by Michael Marriott and Brian McAfee spotted
Bothell to an early lead and Evan Hudson and Kevin McShane took care of the
rest, as the Cougars handed the Kangs their first KingCo loss, 7-2. Reigning KingCo pitcher of the week Trevor
Dunlap took the loss for LW, allowing 6 earned runs in 5 innings while striking
out 8 Bothell batters.
Marriott’s home run came in the top of the first to spot the
Cougs to a 2-0 lead. Lake Washington
catcher Colin Tremblay cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame, driving
home junior outfielder Chris Moore with an RBI single. The Kangs tied the game in the second on
Moore’s bases loaded walk and had a chance for more. However, with the sacks still full with one
out, Hudson enduced a 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Bob Cruikshank, quelling
the LW threat.
The double play proved to be a momentum changer, as Bothell
took charge in the top of the third. With
two on and two out, Cougar cleanup hitter Brian McAfee drove a 2-1 pitch off
the scoreboard, giving his team a 5-2 lead.
Bothell added single runs in the 4th and 7th,
while the Kangs could not put any more runs on the board.
The loss dropped Lake Washington to 2-1 in KingCo play, one
game behind Crown Division leading Inglemoor, who topped Woodinville 4-3 on
Tuesday to improve to 3-0. The Kangs
will travel to both schools to finish off the week, starting with a 7:00 pm
date at Woodinville HS on Wednesday night.
