Pitching Carries Kangs Past Riders, 5-2

Junior Wesley Russell
struck out 6 in picking up his first KingCo win.
Three junior right-handers combined on a one-hitter as Lake
Washington improved to 2-0 in KingCo play with a 5-2 win over Roosevelt on
Saturday night. Wesley Russell got the
start and worked the first five innings, allowing just one hit and two unearned
runs while striking out six. Spencer
Jackson shutout Roosevelt in the sixth inning before giving way to Bob
Cruikshank, who struck out the side in the seventh for his first save.
The Kangs offense struck early in the game, scoring in each
of the first four innings to build a 5-0 lead.
Cruikshank doubled home Alex Donnelly in the first inning and RBI
singles by seniors Trevor Dunlap and Colin Tremblay in the second extended the
lead to 3-0. Sophomore Theo Alexander
single-handedly provided the third inning run, as he singled, stole second and
advanced home on two Roosevelt errors.
Spencer Jackson drove in a run in the fourth on an infield single,
capping the LW scoring for the evening.
The win completed a 2-0 week for the Kangs, who sit tied atop
the Crown Division with Inglemoor. Next
week, LW runs the Northshore gauntlet, hosting Bothell on Monday and traveling
to Woodinville Wednesday and Inglemoor Friday.
