Trevor Dunlap’s arm and Alex Donnelly’s bat led LW to a 2nd straight win.

Senior Trevor Dunlap tossed four shutout innings and junior Alex Donnelly was 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI as Lake Washington moved to 2-0 with an 11-1 five-inning win over Sammamish.  The Kangs broke open a 3-1 game with an eight-run fifth inning, capped off by senior Phil Gray’s walk-off single.  The win was the second in as many games over KingCo 3A clubs, the league which LW will be a part of in 2011.

Dunlap got off to a bit of a rocky start, allowing a walk and a double with one out in the top of the first.  However, he struck out the final two batters of the frame and cruised after that, retiring 10 of the last 11 batters he faced.  He finished the day with 3 strikeouts, needing just 50 pitches to get through four innings of work.  The Kangs got on the board in the bottom of the second on a two-run double by junior third baseman Spencer Jackson.  A single run in the third extended the Lake Washington lead to 3-0, which is where the score stayed until the top of the fifth.  Sophomore left-hander Zach Johnson relieved Dunlap and allowed a leadoff double.  Johnson enduced three straight groundouts after that, with the second one plating the Totems lone run of the day.

LW finished the game with an 8-run explosion in their half of the fifth.  Sophomore outfielder Theo Alexander started the scoring with an RBI double.  Junior Chris Moore plated two runs with a single to left field, and another run came home on a Sammamish error.  Donnelly drove in two with a single of his own, and a missed pop-up in the infield scored courtesy runner Victor Mayorquin, making the score 10-1.  A hit by pitch loaded the bases and Phil Gray capped the game off with what would have been a bases-clearing double if not for the 10-run mercy rule.

The Kangs pounded out 13 hits in just 5 innings, with 8 of the 9 starters registering at least one hit.  Spencer Jackson finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Bob Cruikshank was 2-for-4 with an RBI for LW, who will head to Eastern Washington this weekend to finish up their non-league slate.  Friday’s game is at 3:30 pm at Rec Park against Wenatchee, with the Kangs facing off against Southridge at 11:00 am on Saturday.
