Final
Preparations Being Made for ’09 Season

The Kangs 2009 schedule includes a game at Bellevue
Community College’s Courter Field.
With the first day of tryouts less than a week away (March
2) and opening day in just three short weeks (March 17), final preparations are
being made for the upcoming season of Kangs baseball. This past weekend was the annual field work
party, which was a huge success. About
sixty players, coaches, parents and volunteers enjoyed the sunshine and made a
big difference on the field and facilities.
The batting cage remodel is now complete, with a 70-foot cage, a 50-foot
cage and a net for soft-toss and tee work now in place. The finishing touches were put on the new
grass infield and the mounds in both bullpens and on the field were built back
up. A big
thanks to all who participated in the event!
The 2009 Varsity schedule has been released and features games
at the University of Washington and Bellevue Community College. The KingCo conference has once again
realigned, bringing 3A powers Newport, Issaquah and Skyline into the fold. Those teams along with Redmond, Eastlake and
Garfield make up the Crest Division.
Lake Washington has been placed in the Crown division and is joined by
familiar foes Ballard, Bothell, Inglemoor, Roosevelt and Woodinville.
The Kangs will take on their division rivals twice, while
playing each team in the Crest division once for a total of 16 league
games. The shortened KingCo schedule
allows for four non-league games, which promise to be good pre-season tests for
LW. The season opens at home on March
17th when the Kangs play host to Liberty.
Lake Washington then heads over the mountains for a doubleheader against
the defending 3A state champion Kennewick Lions on Saturday, March 21st. The non-league schedule wraps up on Friday,
March 27th, when the Kangs will host Oregon 6A power West Linn at the
University of Washington’s Husky Ballpark.
The stage is set for another exciting year. Be sure to check back often for updates on
Lake Washington Kangs baseball!
