Final
Week Brings Many Possibilities
With just two games remaining in the 2008 regular season, the
KingCo conference has many unanswered questions with the playoffs fast
approaching. One question was answered
on Friday when the Redmond Mustangs clinched the conference championship,
improving to 16-2 with a 14-3 win over Franklin. However, the remaining berths to the KingCo
tournament remain unclaimed heading into Monday’s action. Six teams are vying for five playoff spots,
with just two games separating the current second and seventh place teams in
the conference. In addition, four teams
are still in the running for the coveted #2 seed in the tourney, which brings
with it a first-round bye and the reward of needing just one win to advance to
State.
Currently, Juanita and Eastlake sit tied for second-place
with 12-6 records. Bothell follows at
12-7, with Lake Washington just one game out of second place at 11-7. Inglemoor and
Eastlake are deadlocked at 10-8, currently tied for the final playoff berth. You can view the complete KingCo 4A standings
here. Of
the six teams, only the Vikings (Inglemoor) and
Wolves (Eastlake) cannot capture the second-seed. This week features many matchups
between potential playoff teams, starting with Monday’s slate of games. In the afternoon, Juanita travels to Eastlake
for a 3:45 game. As for night games, Inglemoor looks to solidify their playoff positioning as
they play host to Franklin and at 7:00, the Kangs will square off against
defending KingCo champion Woodinville, in a game with major playoff
implications.
In addition to the week of playoff drama, the Kang baseball
family would like to congratulate senior first baseman Chris Hashimoto for
winning the KingCo 4A Player of the Week award for the week of April 21st. Hashimoto homered
in back-to-back games against Bothell and Garfield, and finished the week
5-for-13 (.385) with a double, two home runs, 5 runs
scored and 9 RBI. Way to go Chris!
