Three
Former Kangs Earn All-NWAACC Honors
Three alumni of the Lake Washington Kangs
baseball program were announced on Wednesday as Northwest Athletic Association
of Community Colleges (NWAACC) first-team all-stars.
Paul Dickey, a 2005 graduate and starting
pitcher in the Kangs '05 KingCo championship win, was named to the NWAACC
Western Region first-team after an impressive sophomore campaign at Lower
Columbia College. Dickey finished the
year at 9-1 with a 1.40 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings pitched. The nine wins were the second best mark in
the NWAACC and his 80 strikeouts ranked third in the conference. Paul followed up his great regular season
with a win in the opening round of the NWAACC playoffs.
David Marks, also a 2005 graduate who had the
game-winning hit in the '05 KingCo championship game, was named as a first-team
outfielder for Edmonds Community College in the NWAACC's
Northern Region. Marks emerged as one of
the conference's top hitters in 2007, finishing the year hitting .383 with 7
home runs and 37 RBI. His seven home
runs put him tied for third in the NWAACC and his .525 on-base percentage led
the conference. David has signed a
letter of intent with the Aggies of New Mexico State.
Ben Thielsen, a
2006 graduate and three-year starter at second base for the Kangs, was also
named to the Northern Region first-team as an infielder for Edmonds Community
College. Ben stepped right in as a
freshman and had a big year for the Tritons, hitting .373 and playing his
customary great defense at second base.
His 40 runs scored and .494 on-base percentage
both ranked seventh in the conference.
Congratulations go out to these former Kangs
who are making an impact at the next level.
