Four
Kangs Earn All-League Honors
A big congratulations to the four Lake
Washington Kangs who earned spots on the 2007 KingCo 4A All-League teams. Senior outfielders Nick Pizzuto
and Josh Rosser both earned first team honors, while senior second baseman Nate
Sadler and senior shortstop Kirby Young earned spots on the All-KingCo second
team. In addition, all four players were
selected to play in the KingCo 3A-4A feeder game scheduled for Thursday, May 31st
at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
Here’s a quick spotlight on each of the four
players receiving honors:
·
Nick Pizzuto was selected as a first-team All-KingCo outfielder,
finishing tied with Woodinville outfielder Ryan Shelton for the KingCo lead in
hits with 31. Pizzuto’s .449 batting average
was good for third in the conference and his 18 stolen bases (2nd in
KingCo) tied a Lake Washington school record for a single season.
·
Josh Rosser was selected as a
first-team All-KingCo utility player for his work on the mound and all three
outfield positions. Rosser finished the
year on an 11-game hit streak, hitting .407 on the year, good for the 7th
best mark in KingCo. Rosser also drove
in 20 runs (5th in KingCo) and finished his three year career for
Lake Washington second in the school record books with 54 RBI. On the mound, Rosser finished the year at 4-3
with a 2.38 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings pitched.
·
Nate Sadler was selected as a
second-team All-KingCo second baseman, hitting .352 on the year with 11 RBI and
13 runs scored. Sadler finished tied for
the league lead in walks with 17 and his 6 doubles put him tied for 4th
in the conference. Sadler was a perfect
6-for-6 in stolen base attempts and ended up with a .521 on-base percentage.
·
Kirby Young was selected as a
second-team All-KingCo shortstop, finishing the year with a .371 batting
average with 18 RBI (tied for 9th in KingCo) and 19 runs scored (11th). Young also finished among the league leaders
in doubles with 5 (T-10th) and home runs with 2 (T-7th).
This weekend marks the beginning of the 2007 WIAA 4A state tournament, with games taking place at
four different sites. Three KingCo teams
are represented in the tournament, with Woodinville, Bothell and Redmond all in
action. Best of luck to our KingCo
competitors in the state tournament!
